A/Professor Helen MacDonald is a health anthropologist at UCT with a special interest in the social markers of TB, including within a mining context. Professor MacDonald has received a Wellcome Trust International Engagement Award for a multidisciplinary curatorial project on TB in South Africa, entitled Swallowing the World, which sets out to narrate and distil the intricate social, political and ethical issues related to TB to a general audience. With her experience on this project and general anthropological expertise, she will play a key role in community engagement and in understanding how any health interventions to come out of the network should be managed in order to be implementable.
